he tried to live beyond his profligate
nature once, tried to appreciate the
working man’s plight, that plebian struggle,
tried to expand his view and compassion
outward toward the proletariat life
and times of his classmates in the lesser
scribbletoria, but his familia
intervened, as did his station and his
support staffs through every executive
office until he was too aloof ever
to reach the heart or soul of the common
though the higher born senators to some
degree betimes might identify with
him, he was a man unelectable.
