The Running After
“We all want to be chased after,” she says,
brown eyes sparking mischief. She knows beauty
has been her friend, but lately trust erodes
from hard times and recent dry spells. She says
men are all dogs, yet some have pedigree.
I wonder how much she’s been chased, and if
she’s ever really been caught. But she cries
behind locked doors, turns her bright smile to all
who might doubt any inner strength. She tells
anyone who asks she’s okay, it’s just
a phase. She’s not ready for the catching,
but the chase is never about that, is it?
“Life’s a journey; not the destination.”
The chase? That’s about the running after.
