Cynical Woman to Her Stylist

illusions aren’t worthless, my dear lizzie,
in fact, it’s at the center of most every
relationship: it’s not the love, passion,
or fondness of the actual person
so much as the illusion we foster
under the name of that person, we build
a construct internally, raise it up,
put it on our altars of affection,
and worship those automatons as they
wobble and falter and catch divergent
angles of light, enchanting heart and mind
until their inevitable falls from grace
when we take up our flaming angelic
swords and chase them from our pristine gardens.
