seeing things in tandem can feel like a poke
in the eye when you’re lonely. it’s a constant
reminder the world is made for togetherness,
which means you’re out in the rain alone — no
matter what circumstance led to the demise
of marriage or relationship, alone
is alone. early on, sometimes, the getting
to know yourself part is like a honey-
moon alone, but then that ‘alone’ echoes
into every corner of your universe
and longing takes hold like new life in spring . . .
and gets stubborn as deep underground roots.
from the bottom of the well, life looks high
and unreachable . . . and it is, alone.
