Liberally Drunk

let us stand, then, on ceremony, for
what else have we to stand upon . . . honor,
moral integrity, political
ethic, corporate responsibility —
all these wayside have gone dodo extinct
and failed us as certain as nietzsche’s dead
god.     so ritual is the new freedom
from ceremony, ceremony our
new liberty free of etiquette as though
chaos and anarchy were social constructs
laid out in pastoral magnificence,
then scrambled to represent the random
chants of our aboriginal selves free
from constraints but for ceremony standing.
