Somewhere in the Sky Over Ohio

this inexplicable instinct for each other,
this echo of self yours to mine, mine to yours,
mysteries solved deep as thought swims in nebulae—
two particles sharing in the great expanse, light
and sub-particles and going atomic,
nuclear, we achieve fusion on our way past
thresholds heretofore believed limiting
and too beautiful this cosmic star-birth
to yet ponder questions of fallout, its bright
explosion driving such shadows abay
light years away, and we awash in glory
watch as pieces of us form something new,
some miracle too mysterious yet to name
as we become old ghosts strolling hotel ballrooms.
