enjoy the silence, it lasts but a little
while before the return of cacophony.
especially in the world of man. motor
noises and rotor noises and trains with
their whale song in the distance, the hum
of electricity flowing and being
used in a hundred million things we take
for granted until they break down. and then
there are the natural sounds: cicadas
giving way to crickets, song birds in the bush
by the bedroom window, dogs both wild and
domestic plaintive in the lonely earth . . .
your own blood sloshing solitude in this
deep night as you lie awake listening.
