jon & juli

juli always had a way of making
jon feel like a rockstar.          and they liked to
pretend he was,   getting ritzed up tip to toe
with half a counter of mary kae caked on
the both of them and leather and platform
boots and they’d come in to yella’s after
the city bars closed and stay ‘til three   —   close
down and then host or provide favors for all
the after-hours parties   .  .  .   but jon found god
at the end of a line where juli found
the devil,   and now jon’s holed up in some
southern town with three wives and a cult full
of other disenfranchised youth from his
generation’s offspring holy as thou art  . . .
