an event ambiguously recalled

I don’t recall was it last october
perhaps november; there was weather where
ever it was and something else elsewhere
and an upcoming journey a little
more than a daytrip toward one coast or other
and we had been getting along fine over
a distance but something struck up between
us once that distance closed and we were bent
on raking each other over coals and had
we had cats of nine tails we likely would
have done injury, but then the weather
turned, and us with it, more clement, more fair
and our animal natures bent from one
aggression to one more savage gentle.
