Bold as Love

last night your eyes,   your smile,   your lips,   your face
in the moonlight and mist   .  .  .   and this kiss we
didn’t share across the space from you to me
patient and afraid,   both having fresh red
wounds where hearts tender crimson bitten,   marked
by teeth of old lovers   .  .  .   trying to be brave
we smile and swear to live hope against fear
in the face of a carnivore world     want
to heal each other,     cover in affection
what wounds bitterness refresh   —   such courage,
you said to me,     it takes such courage to
open a heart once offended.          love
heals where it finds an open door,     but such doors
are where the doubts and fears creep in as well   .  .  .
