Invitation to a Midnight Picnic

you and I, then, let us go now walking
in moonlight to pluck the stars and wonder
from midnight orchards,     our picnic of sweet
fruits and wine set out upon dewed grasses
let us listen deeply to the night’s song
triumphant concerto of spring creeping
beneath the earth,   pushing sap into all
green and growing things.          let’s you and I steal
time alone for deep kisses and the rise
of our own saps,   the magic of renewal
vernal and ecstatic beneath stars and moon
I want to skinny dip in your eyes, your soul,
and your eyes, your eyes, they tell me stories
my heart and eyes and soul ache to share in.
